Recently EW magazine voted Homer Simpson as the #1 fictional character of the last 20 years. He's been one of my favorite characters since I began watching the Simpsons. What is so great about Homer is, although he's a lazy, stupid, gluttonous, drunk, he represents so much of American culture. The Simpsons was a brilliant satire dressed up (or down) in crude animation. It is incredibly smart stupidity.
So many others have shows have since tried to emulate the success of Homer, with the most obvious forgery being Family Guy.
